Navigating Coverage for Clinical Counselling in BC In British Columbia, accessing coverage for clinical counselling involves several avenues, each tailored to different circumstances:
1. Medical Services Plan (MSP) Coverage:
Mental health services, including counselling and therapy, may be covered under the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) when received through a hospital or mental health clinic. To understand the specific counselling services available in your area under MSP, please reach out to your local health authority. In many cases, obtaining these services through MSP requires a doctor's referral.

2. Private System Access:
When a doctor's referral is not feasible or required, individuals can opt for private system access. It's important to note that services in the private system are not government-funded.

3. Extended Health Benefits:
Contact your extended health benefits provider, which might include Blue Cross, Sun Life, Desjardins, or similar entities. Ask them whether your policy includes coverage for Registered Clinical Counselling. If your benefits cover such services, you can conveniently submit your receipt from Wellness Talks to your insurance provider for full reimbursement.
4. Other Coverage Sources:
Explore other potential coverage sources, such as Workers' Compensation Board (WCB), ICBC, or private insurance plans. These sources may offer coverage for counselling services based on the circumstances of your needs.

Please keep in mind that, in our practice, we only direct bill to ICBC. For all other counselling services, we provide detailed receipts that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. To ensure that you have the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding your specific coverage options and requirements, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly.
